Volunteer with US

At Unity Shelter, we offer meaningful volunteer opportunities through three key programs, giving you the chance to support our daily operations and make a direct impact in the community.

Room at the Inn

•  Meal Service Volunteer: Assist with meal prep, washing dishes, and serving our guests. (Mon & Tue 5-8 pm | Wed 3-6 pm | Wed-Sun 6-8 pm | Thu & Fri 10 am-1 pm)
• Morning Rover: Helping set up continental breakfast, performing wake-up calls, escorting guests to the laundry and tote room areas, providing medication reminders, and meal clean up and dishes. (Everyday 7-9 am)
• Staff Assistant: Assist staff with bag checks, processing donations, escorting guests to the laundry and tote room areas, interacting and engaging with guests, and ensuring all guests feel safe, respected, and supported during their stay.(Everyday 4:45-6:45 pm)
• Sleeper Volunteer: Sleep on-site and be a backup if needed for overnight staff (Everyday 10 pm-5:30 am)

Hygiene Center & Stone Soup

• Stone Soup: Assist with meal service and cleanup (Mon & Thu 5:30-6:30 pm | Wed & Fri 1-2 pm)
• Staff Assistant: Help staff with laundry, escort guests to and from indoor showers, make snack bags, interact and engage with guests, and ensure all guests feel safe, respected, and supported. (Everyday 11 am- 1 pm or 1-4 pm)
• Meal Prep Volunteer: Sandwiches: Make and organize sandwiches to be served to guests in need of a nutritious meal. (Everyday 10 am-12 pm)

Men's Shelter

• Staff Assistant: Assist staff with laundry, escort guests to and from showers, interact and engage with guests, and ensure all guests feel safe, respected, and supported. (Everyday 4:45-6:45 pm)
• Engagement and Community Activities: This shift involves interacting with guests through activities like games, crafts, or simple conversations, helping to foster a sense of community and support. We welcome your creativity in suggesting and organizing these activities. (Everyday 6-8 pm)
• Sleeper Volunteer: Sleep on-site and be a backup if needed for overnight staff (Thu & Fri 10 pm-5:30 am)

Our onboarding email will provide all the details you need to get started, including training links for food handlers and trauma-informed care, along with important Unity Shelter policies. After completing all required materials and discussing any questions with us, you’ll be ready to sign up for shifts through our Bloomerang page.
