SafePlace, Unity Shelter's microshelter-based transitional housing program, began at Safe Camp in 2019, when the First Congregational Church offered sanctuary and a safe space to unsheltered people then living in tents in a tree farm adjacent to the Church property. Initially offering only tent space at Safe Camp, with the pandemic and the formation of Unity Shelter, SafePlace was formed, and has grown to include 31 microshelters in 6 locations in Corvallis, with plans to grow.
SafePlace is a transitional housing program, and participants in the program partner with staff and case managers to develop plans to address their goals, and remove barriers to more permanent housing. Microshelters offer heat and air conditioning, power, and a locked door, and provide the safety and stability needed to support people transitioning from homelessness to housing.
SafePlace offers both low-barrier and clean and sober sites, and is available to individuals and couples of any gender identity. For more information on SafePlace, please call 541-286-5121, or email info@unityshelter.org.
