Founded in January 2020, Unity Shelter was imagined as an umbrella organization for Room at the Inn, SafePlace, and Corvallis Men's Shelter to join under a single entity. All three organizations were long-standing, reputable services in the Corvallis area, fiscally sponsored by partner churches. With the Covid-19 pandemic, our volunteers stayed home, but the need for shelter grew. Operations changed drastically, increasing Room at the Inn to 25 beds and 24/7 operations, temporarily reducing capacity at Men's Shelter due to space restrictions, opening the Hygiene Center for basic needs, and dramatically growing the SafePlace microshelter program. With these changes, Unity Shelter quickly became the largest low-barrier shelter provider in the area.
Since Unity Shelter's inception, the organization continues to grow programs and operations to meet the growing demand for shelter, respite, resource navigation, and community. By understanding the needs of the community we serve, Unity Shelter continues to meet people where they're at, and walk side-by-side as people transition into safe, permanent housing.
