Reverend Jennifer Butler is the senior pastor at First Congregational United Church of Christ on West Hills Road in Corvallis. She and her congregation were moved by the plight of the individuals experiencing homelessness in the tree farm adjacent to their church's property. When their neighbors were displaced, Jen felt a calling to establish Safe Camp & SafePlace. Jen organized volunteers from her own congregation and recruited other interfaith leaders to explore how to help these friends and neighbors. As the banner on her church says, "How can we worship a homeless man on Sunday and ignore Him on Monday?"
Senior Minister Jennifer Butler is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. She has a Masters of Divinity from Portland Seminary and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre from Eastern Oregon University. While an adjunct professor at Portland Seminary, she co-wrote Introducing Evangelical Ecotheology with colleagues, Dr. Daniel Brunner and Dr. AJ Swoboda.
She is a fellow of GreenFaith and Parker Palmer’s Center for Courage and Renewal. She explores faith and religious practice as revolutionary acts of courage and restoration in a chronically diseased world.
Jennifer can be found hosting loud dinner parties, nurturing spaces of quiet, and planning her next tattoo. She is married to Peter Walker with whom she shares a child, Moses Fury.
